Artist/Producer Geoff Westen's DIGITAL ACTIVITY music project, has created an outlet for his experimentation with instrumental music. What has developed is a unique hybrid of Rock and Ambient gone wild; and we call it RAM--Rock Ambient Music!

When Geoff immersed himself in the DISTURBING MUSIC Soundlab, plugged in all his electronic toys, and began his manipulation of bits and bytes, he thrived on the creative freedom of composing soundscapes that allowed him to stretch his musical muscles into some brand new territory. Giving free reign to his musical instincts, he fell into a groove that is slightly off-center from any other genre. This is GWs unique little corner of the music world.

"I'm trying to create a new experience for myself and for my listeners," explains Digital Activist Westen. "My approach to ambient music utilizes complex orchestration with more edge, more punch, and extreme dynamics. Rock Ambient can be hypnotic and beautiful or it can be a powerful wall of sound." ACTIVATE is the latest sonic adventure from Westen's Digital Activity project.

Push PLAY to ACTIVATE, and open a floodgate of Geoff Westen's Rock Ambient music. The ten tracks on ACTIVATE will get you dancing a nasty samba to "Chio's" ambient Latin beat, flailing your hair to the Rock Ambient-flavored "Thanks DC" or soothing your feverish psyche to the strains of "Sad Cowboy." Each cut is a musical journey which starts from a point of familiarity then drifts off-course on a sonic adventure before falling back into place. This music can either pacify or energize your environment. It's your call!

Remember, this is Rock Ambient...not...Ambient Rock. These musical soundscapes have no real pop structure but are connected through dynamics and arrangement. Each track has a mix of textures within a single theme. They twist and turn, ebb and flow, move from loud to soft and frantic to soothing. Westen uses whatever bridge works best to connect the storyline and keep the piece moving.

BIRTH is DIGITAL ACTIVITY's first-born Rock Ambient CD.

Each of the sonic themes on BIRTH is a conceptual soundscape. These narratives can be as calming as a zephyr or as turbulent as a tornado, with electronic currents, Gaelic traces and even the babble of Bulgarian singers. Tracks switch gears from dreamy, sensitive textures to driven, guitar-laden sonic bursts.

When WESTEN sequenced the tracks for the CD, the fact that each piece sounded completely different from the one before and after, didn't bother him at all. "I envision each piece on the CD as an instrumental painting. Each one has its own palette of colors and its own storyline. I think BIRTH delivers something just a little bit different. So for right now, if no one else is going to go down the Rock Ambient road, it might as well be DIGITAL ACTIVITY."

DIGITAL ACTIVITY turned their Soundlab into Santa's workshop for a while, coming out with a little side project called XMAS VOL. 1.

These nine extended Xmas soundscapes start down their traditional musical road before veering off into inventive rhythmic and melodic excursions—from the classic and familiar to the edgy and outrageous! Digital arranger GEOFF WESTEN brings his contemporary touch to the songs he grew up with and incorporates most of Digital Activity's Rock Ambient textures.

XMAS VOL. 1 can instantly evoke Xmas—as an underscore to your holidays, these classic melodies work every time! The instant you hear a few bars from any track, you'll go to that special Xmas place and feel good all over. XMAS VOL. 1 can be played as a background to establish the perfect holiday atmosphere for wrapping a few gifts or baking a batch of cookies. But turn up the volume and you'll be rewarded with the power and energy of the arrangements and orchestration.
